The Pink Floyd /Wizard Of Oz Sync Up

It was 25 years ago today that an entertainment and cultural phenomenon found its way to the mainstream media. As Pink Floyd's masterpiece Dark Side Of The Moon was in its record 1,056th week on the Billboard album charts, a startling connection was revealed to another masterpiece. The urban legends swirled (like a tornado wink, wink) with a freaky number of coincidences of the Floyd record synching up to "The Wizard Of Oz" film. Some fanatics believed it was an elaborate design by the band to construct Dark Side... by playing to the action on the screen. For decades the band's members vehemently denied any truth to the rumors.

Below is the MTV news report that aired in June of 1997 with journalist Kurt Loder. Longtime Boston radio fans will notice another legendary personality in the piece as well. George Taylor Morris was the WZLX Midday Host at the time and was credited with being one of the first jocks in the Country to start talking about the Dark Side/Wizard Of Oz mashup. He was quoted as saying it was "an amazing series of cosmic coincidences". Whether it's your first time hearing about this or you want to see for yourself, start HERE for a refresher course on what to look and listen for. As always, remember the first rule: press "PLAY" on the album after the third roar of the MGM Lion in the opening credits.
