Freezing Wintry Mix Expected This Weekend In Massachusetts

WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A freezing wintry mix of weather is expected across Massachusetts this weekend, which will likely be followed by another winter storm over New England early next week.

The National Weather Service Boston said Friday that there could be "light snow accumulations" starting Saturday evening into Sunday across southern New England.

"Warm air aloft creates the potential for light accumulations of freezing rain," the NWS said, "especially south and east of the I-95 corridor."

AccuWeather said the wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain on Saturday night could mix with "plain rain" toward the South Shore and Cape.

"There can be a coating to an inch of snow from Boston north and west, but the icy mix can make roads slippery," AccuWeather said. "Low [temperature Saturday] night 24 [degrees]."

There could also be additional periods of snow, ice or rain on Monday, with a high temperature of 31 degrees expected.

Meteorologists are additionally watching another wintry storm that is expected to hit 36 states in the coming five days, including southern New England on Tuesday. AccuWeather said the storm is likely to bring inland snow, while dumping sleet and freezing rain near the City of Boston and coastal areas.
