Cheers Debuted On NBC On This Day In 1982

The Bull and Finch Pub on Beacon St. right across from the Boston Public Garden used to be a quiet neighborhood watering hole, then the TV people came...

"Cheers" made it's network TV debut on NBC, September 30th, 1982. The adventures of barflies Norm and Cliff, bartender and ex Red Sox pitcher Sam Malone, caustic waitress Carla, and overly qualified Diane, ran for 11 seasons and 275 episodes. Though it was nearly cancelled because of low ratings in it's first season, it went on to become one of the biggest shows in NBC's history, and finished with a live, drunken appearance of the cast after the last episode on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno right outside the bar.

Countless tourists through the years have asked people on the street, "how do ya get to Cheers?"

So raise a toast to Norm tonight and enjoy one of the catchiest theme songs....ever!

There's going to be a mini Cheers reunion on "The Goldbergs" October 9th when cast members Rhea Perlman, Kirstie Alley, John Ratzenberger, and George Wendt appear as a part of ABC’s “Cast from the Past Week.”
