Remember the first time you heard "Eruption?" The instrumental opening to, "You Really Got Me," off Van Halen's self titled debut album was the guitar solo shot heard 'round the world. It was inventive, ground breaking, and considered by many to be the greatest guitar solo of all time!
Eddie said it all came about when he came to the studio early to warm up because they had a gig at The Whiskey A Go-Go and he wanted to practice his guitar solo. Producer Ted Templeman walked by and asked, "What is that" Let's put it on tape." He played it two times for the record and kept the best take, even though Eddie makes a mistake at the top of it that still makes him cringe.
Today, his son Wolfy posted his version of "Eruption," on bass! He says this is his entire first album, 35 seconds of Eruption on bass. Check it out, he's got his Dad's finger action...
