The 2021 Grammy Awards broadcast on CBS last night was 3 plus hours of hip hop, country, pop, and barely any rock...again.
Many artists and rock fans are even more outraged that during the annual, "In Memoriam," segment, they paid a small amount of time on one of the true Rock God's that we lost in 2020, Eddie Van Halen, who passed away In October. Eddie inspired so many kids to pick up a guitar for the first time, he developed new ways to play the guitar, sold millions of albums, sold out stadiums, and owned our car radios.
While another musical giant we lost, Little Richard, was honored by Bruno Mars doing great cover versions of "Long Tall Sally," and "Good Golly Miss Molly," they honored Eddie Van Halen with a photo of him playing, while his famous Frankenstrat guitar sat on stage and we heard a 21 second clip of him doing a solo. Don't you think he deserved more?
Social media lit up. Eddie's former bandmate Gary Cherone put it best. Check out the lame Grammy tribute...
UPDATE: Eddie Van Halen's son, Wolfgang, responded on Twitter last night, saying that the Grammys had asked him to play "Eruption" which he declined, but he thought they would do more. Take a look...
