The end of an era. Adam Vinatieri, who helped launch the New England Patriots dynasty with his foot, announced his retirement to Pat McAfee on his Colts teammate's show today.

Saying, "do you want me to just say it now?" the kicking legend said if the paperwork goes through by Friday, he's done. Vinatieri hasn't played since he finished the 2019 season on the injured reserve list with the Colts. On the Morten Anderson podcast "Great Dane Nation" he said,

“When you get to be our age, and you’ve kicked as many balls as we have, things start to wear out a little bit. Unfortunately, it was a little bit more than we were hoping. We knew we had some stuff in (the knee) that needed to be fixed. But when our surgeon went in there, he said, ‘I’m not giving you the 40,000-mile overhaul; it looked like we gave you the 80,000-mile overhaul.’”

The man is a legend. He played 24 seasons in the NFL with the Patriots and the Colts, and is the NFL's all-time leading scorer at 2,673 points. Vinatieri joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 1996, and helped lead them to 3 Super Bowl Championships with his foot. He was always clutch. Let's start with the Snow Bowl kick of 2001. It's the AFC Divisional Playoff game against the Oakland Raiders, he lines up for a 45 yard field goal in a blinding Foxboro snowstorm to tie it and then kicks another in overtime to win it...
