32 Years Ago Today Bruce Springsteen Changed A Bartender's Life

Via azcentral.com Thirty two years ago today, September 29, 1989, Bruce Springsteen roared out of Los Angeles on his motorcycle for a long ride with friends to The Grand Canyon. The road makes you thirsty, so they pulled into Matt's Saloon in Prescott Arizona, about 100 miles north of Phoenix.

He arrived around 2pm and ordered a beer from bartender Brenda "Bubbles" Pechanec. Bubbles told the Boss that she had been married 8 times and just got out of the hospital after a long stay for cancer treatment.

He watched the local country band, "The Mile High Boys" for a while, then yelled out, "come on boys, let's jam!" They played covers of Elvis, Chuck Berry, and Bruce's, "I'm On Fire." After about an hour, he jumped behind the bar telling everyone, "I’m here in Prescott to take Bubbles away and be her ninth!”

As word spread through the town that Springsteen was there, the place started to fill up, so he jumped on his silver and blue Harley and roared off with his friends. A few days later, Bubbles got a check from Bruce for $100,000 to pay her medical bills!

I love this story! Check out the incredible photos from this Bruce visit here at AZCentral.com.
