Via nypost.com People who live along the Nervion River in Bilbao Spain awoke to a startling sight last week. The eerily lifelike face of a young girl drowning in the tide.
Mexican artist Ruben Orozco created the 264 pound fiberglass statue called, ‘Bihar’ (‘Tomorrow’ in Basque) for a campaign to encourage debate around sustainability. The artist said, "the goal is for people to be aware that their actions can sink us or keep us afloat."
As the river tides rise and fall each day, the girl's tilted up face submerges then reappears, freaking out some of the people in the town. One woman said, “at first it gave me a feeling of stress, when more of the face was out of the water, but now to me she communicates sadness, a lot of sadness."
